Cramped kitchen corner into cute dining space

When we were looking for houses, the character and charm of the house we bought jumped out at us immediately. Each room abounds with built-in shelves, antique fixtures, and nooks that are functional and welcoming. While the kitchen dining space was fine, I dreamed of adding some touches to the space to have the character match that of the rest of the house.

Here are the steps I took to turn my cramped kitchen corner into my dream kitchen nook.
Repainted
The wall color was a taupe gray that wasn’t creating any light or warmth. I knew we’d be having breakfast, meals, and coffee here, so I wanted to modernize it and make it a more comfortable and cheerful spot to do that. I painted the kitchen Aganthus Green by Benjamin Moore to brighten the space.
Added Custom Window Bench
To make the eating area more cozy, I hired Green Gable Carpentry and Construction to build a custom window bench. My goal was to make the bench match the existing moldings, so it looked like it was always there. I wanted the table to seat 4-5, with ease to get around.

Brought in Furniture
I went with a 36' tulip table and bistro dining chairs to compliment the bench seating. The chairs are light and easy to move around, which was important to me.

Added Art and Textiles
I had a custom seat cushion made and brought in pillows from local shops. My mother-in-law is a painter, so we have lucked out with getting to enjoy her art throughout our house. One of her pieces worked perfectly in this space.
Swapped Out the Old Light Fixture
The overhead light fixture was out of date and not scaled well for the small space. I replaced it with an affordable fixture that fits the space better.
With these changes, the kitchen nook has become one of the most used rooms in our house!
